    Biosketch

    Dr. Botros earned her Bachelors in Science in Biology at the University of Dallas in 1995 and then graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston - School of Medicine, and received her M.D. in 1999. She completed her residency in Houston at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, UT Health –Houston in 2003.  She then completed a fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (urogynecology) at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine concurrently with her Masters in Clinical Investigation at Northwestern's School of public health in 2006. She has been practicing in Chicago for the past 11 years and feels privileged to return to her home state of Texas to join UT Medicine and the teaching faculty at UT Health San Antonio. 
    In addition to her clinical practice, she is actively involved in research, with over 40 peer-reviewed publications in the field of urogynecology and has a particular interest in medical education, faculty and leadership development.  She was the fellowship director of the Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship at the University of Chicago from 2012-2017.  She has been selected for and completed the prestigious Association of Professors in Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) Scholars and Leaders program as well as the American Urogynecology Society (AUGS) leaders program in 2014. She completed the Medical Education, Research, Innovation and Teaching Fellowship (MERITS) at the University of Chicago in 2017 and continues to hone her educational leadership skills.  Nationally, she serves as the Chair of the Fellowship Training Committee for AUGS and is an oral board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). Internationally, she serves on the Executive Board of the International Urogynecology Association as the Treasurer.

    Clinical
    Dr. Botros is board certified in both Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery and Obstetrics and Gynecology. She specializes in surgical and nonsurgical treatments of pelvic floor disorders which include vaginal and pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, urinary urgency, urinary frequency, nighttime voiding, difficulty voiding, repair of vaginal/perineal tears after delivery, bowel incontinence, bladder and rectal fistulas, urethral diverticulum, recurrent urinary tract infections, bladder pain, vaginal pain, pain with intercourse and mesh complications. She has a special interest in uterine preserving surgery for patients with pelvic organ prolapse and believes that each patient is an individual with individual needs.  She specializes in tailoring her approach for each patient and partnering with her patients to identify the best treatment plan for them.
    Research
    Dr. Botros is actively involved in educational research focused on fellowship directors as well as clinical trials specifically involved in improving outcomes for urinary tract infections.  She is also involved in obtaining samples for basic science evaluation of the pelvic floor.
